The Merit Award was given to Ronald E. Royer "...for his devoted service to the AAVSO...."
"Patron" was an honorific used during the early years of the Association, given in appreciation of an individual's significant material, financial, or time and effort contributions in support of the AAVSO.
Today, such contributions are recognized through several named AAVSO honors and awards, and in the lists of benefactors published in the AAVSO Annual Report.

We are pleased and proud that AAVSO Council member Dr. Chryssa Kouveliotou has been elected to membership in the National Academy of Sciences.
Dr. John R. Percy of the University of Toronto, longtime AAVSO member, former AAVSO President and Council Member, and current Editor of the Journal of the AAVSO, has been awarded the Education Prize of the American Astronomical Society for 2013.
